Top Things to do in Mold

Mold, a Welsh town and community in Flintshire, is a beautiful town to visit or live in. It has been named the second-best market town in Wales to live and work in and it is incredibly easy to see why.

It is a town that often flies under the radar when it comes to people visiting which is a shame but which also adds to its charm. It’s a quaint town with plenty of things to do for people from all walks of life.

There are many reasons why you might want to consider moving to Mold and here are just a few of the wonderful things Mold has to offer.

Not only is it a wonderful market town, but it is also based in a fantastic location. It is located close to the Clwydian Range of mountains and they truly must be seen to be believed. These mountains offer scenic landscapes and enviable summits and have people visiting from all around. They are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and that really is undisputed too!

As well as being so close to a mountain range, the town is also close to the English border which means vibrant cities such as Manchester, Liverpool and Chester are all relatively close by.

Moel Famau is also well worth a visit. It is a beautiful hill which is just outside the centre of Mold. Whilst it isn’t tall enough to be considered a mountain, it is still incredibly tall with wonderful views from the top. You might also consider taking a trail walkthrough Loggerheads Country Park – there are some wonderful natural attractions to appreciate along the walk.

The site of Mold Castle is somewhere you also need to visit if you can – time has taken its toll on the original structure but you can still visit the grounds.

If you are moving to the area or spending an extended period of time in Mold, then be sure to indulge in your hobbies. The River Alyn is a tributary of the River Dee and is a small trout river where you can fish if that is something you like to do. If you love golfing, the local golf club is award-winning (as are we!) so you should definitely get 18 holes in if that's your sport of choice. 

Websites like Eventbrite and Facebook list some interesting groups and clubs that may be worth checking out. With crafting clubs, golf events and many more, there are plenty of hobbies catered for in the area.

There are many things in Mold for families to do such as Infunity, a game and entertainment centre, which is more than just a soft play centre and offers an extensive food and treats menu too.

If you love shopping, there are many independent shops and quite a few high street names! The bi-weekly market is also a great place to grab some local produce.

If architecture is something you enjoy, then the historic buildings in Mold are something you really need to see. St Mary’s Church is a sight to behold. It has beautiful stained glass windows and a tall tower and the frieze of animal carved figures is unique! 

There are a number of beautiful and historic Georgian and Victorian buildings to be seen around the town too. If you have an appreciation of good architecture, you’ll certainly love visiting and living in Mold.

The town has many eateries – some well-known national names and other welcoming and beautiful independent offerings. You will always be able to find something that you like, no matter the cuisine.

As we've said, Mold Street Market is also held twice a week and can offer over seventy stalls on a successful day – many of which offer delicious food for you to try! Pastries, produce and so much more, you’d be missing out if it’s on whilst you are here and you don't visit! Be sure to check out the bi-monthly Farmers Market too – a great place to get even more local fresh tasty produce if that is something you like.

Mold also has a world-class theatre in the town. It was built over 40 years ago and offers theatres, galleries, a cinema, AND a café! It is a cultural institution and houses the country's main drama theatre company. Many famous actors have performed there in their time and many performances that have been performed there have also been performed in London’s West End!

There are many wonderful events throughout the year including an annual Food and Drink festival, a town carnival and even some music festivals too! If you are in the area for these events, then definitely check them out.
