There is an undeniable cachet to having a Hawarden address, to the point where homes not only sell quickly but frequently do so at a premium. If your shopping list includes two bedroom bungalows and you are something of a gardener, wanting somewhere convenient and economical to run and maintain which, while in need of a lick of paint is in sound condition then this could be the answer to your prayers.

On a large corner plot we find this attractive bungalow with its gardens to three sides given additional privacy by the substantial hedges surrounding. Walking up the driveway we see formal gardens to the front of the home and a larger garden area to the right populated with established shrubs and small trees.

At the top of the drive there is a wooden fence, in the centre of which a gate opens into the triangular rear garden and where, owing to the orientation of the home is a perfect sun trap for relaxing away the afternoon in peace and quiet.

The ‘front’ door is located in the centre of the gable end wall and opens into the ‘L’ shaped hallway where the first door on the right reveals the surprisingly large kitchen. Large it may be but if I am being honest, it could benefit from something of a makeover as the units are dated and not in particularly good condition. Having said that, kitchen modifications are frequently among the first projects undertaken in any new home so this would probably be done as a matter of course. One feature that interested me was the deep recess in the far wall. What use this has been put to previously I don’t know but it could easily contain a set of banquette seats with a fixed table, giving the appearance of an American diner. – Just a thought; what appeals to me, you may hate.

Beyond the kitchen is a small glazed lobby with one side consisting of a large sliding patio door opening into a patio area before the garden itself, while the inner wall has a door into a store room.
This has power and light and could lend itself to becoming a utility room for a washing machine and drier. The rear garden has a triangular lawn bordered by flower beds and features a solid looking wooden shed in the top corner.

Crossing the hall once more we come to the bathroom. If the kitchen could do with a little attention, the same cannot be said of this. In here is a very attractive mock parquet floor and high quality ceramic tiles stretching to the full high of the ceiling, while in the over-size shower area these give way to some of the huge tiling sheets becoming justifiably popular today. The shower is a twin headed unit drawing hot water directly from the combi boiler, making waiting for the tank to heat up a thing of the past. The remaining suite comprises a lavatory and unitary basin with additional storage cupboards beneath.

Adjacent to here and moving towards the front, we find the smaller of the bedrooms. This is not the largest bedroom on the planet but would accept a double bed if your taste in additional furniture favours simplicity. As a single room however, it offers all you could realistically want or need.

Also overlooking the front garden is the lounge, a very comfortably proportioned space with room for one of the vast ‘L’ shapes settees currently in vogue and which would fit in here with ease, still leaving space for anything else that took your fancy. The main focal point of the room is provided by the wooden fire surround and the living flame gas fire it contains, giving a homely and welcoming atmosphere.

Moving once more towards the rear of the home we come to the main bedroom. Approaching the dimensions of the adjacent lounge this is an enormously comfortable room, made all the more peaceful and serene by the view over the enclosed rear garden. Clothes storage is amply catered or by a large fitted wardrobe occupying most of one complete wall while an additional corner cupboard provides space for linen and houses the combi boiler.
